I hear the earth breathe,
It sighs with a longing…
I feel its meat in my hands,
Moist and rich,
I wiggle toes, saying hello to the worms
And see the water floating above
From a gentle rain.
I open my mouth as a drop
Falls happily down

I listen to the sound…listen
The crackle of a seed bursting to a rose
Seeing the faint glimmer of fallen snow
My breathe rises above me like a chimney
Full of smoke.

My head rests on a lowly tree root,
That curls around my neck

It's been a long time since I've seen a poem by you. I am a reveler in nature and that is exactly what this felt like...someone just frolicking in the beauty of the earth, enjoying it with all their senses! Thanks for letting me come along for the romp!

thanks flutter.

I was. I was thinking how it would be to lay under the earth and feel it and breathe it and not dying being under it.

I guess it's all in the perception. I love the poem -- it's tremendously descriptive and it stimulates all the senses. It's just that the thought of being there isn't such a welcome idea to me, perhaps because I'm a lot closer to it in another sense than most others here. It is a great poem!

how are you closer to it than most here?

I recently had my dads girlfriends mother passaway, so i went to the funeral, and that's where the thoughts started coming.

i'm glad you liked and enjoyed nonetheless.

I think Lady G means she's closer in that she is older than some people on here & closer to finding herself underground...

Actually, I wasn't thinking of reveling in nature from underneath the ground...more as in digging in the rich soil with my hands while planting something, rolling in the grass, walking through the woods...

I did once write something about being buried in snow..hmmm...if I locate it on here, I'll add it to this post.

You got it flutter, although I'm recently considering other options. It still didn't detract from my enjoyment of the poem. It's great to see you back.
