Part I
It was my first anniversary I was waiting at the bar She showed up She should have never showed up I shouldn't have shown up I shouldn't have made that call We were strangers She had a Gin & Tonic. I had Bourbon. and a cognac We met up She touched my shoulder For my words, The knife It was just one night But we clicked how strangers can I stroked her slender legs and Admired the bait We spoke of sex No ties, no commitments Just us, and one night ..I was smashed She was trashed It was absolutely perfect Miss. One night We knocked back a couple more ...I hated this part But it was supposed to be Just one night Our past was blank and outright As we set forth that fateful night I really shouldn't have called I should've never walked her to the door It was the urge to fulfill The careless rush between strangers I needed her like a fix She was my dose My heroine for the night.. But it was only suppose to be ONE night Part II There was no guilt in the air It was over before my scents left her skin There was no note She didn't ask me to hold her tight Or kiss her right She didn't even ask me to stay They never asked me to stay Just an offered invitation To the club of lost souls Written in the code of Forged red lipstick Flushing your innocence Down the drain JUST ONE NIGHT? I am so naive I pretend I don't care I guess I'll learn To let the guilt sink in Reduce my heart After all its just sin It'll wear off If I saw her again, Would we do it all over? I don't care I shouldn't care Yesterday's sins Are today's stamps of normalcy In this messed up world But like I said, it was suppose to be Just one night... ............................................ Thanks Shelly for putting this piece together. |
