On this day in 1900, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was born.

The French department at my Uni performed 'Le Petit Prince' as their production last year (I just drew the posters - stage fright, ugh!).
And with those (horrible little) 'Petit Prince' biscuits that are so popular in francophone countries it's obvious that his writing has had a huge effect within French culture. ~La Morse~ |

Antoine de Saint Exupéry, universally known by his work "The Little Prince", was born in Lyon, France in 1900. He worked for several years as a pilot of airplanes, occupation which would allow him to travel around the whole world and to compile experiences for his writings. Between 1936 and 1937 he flew to Spain and worked as a correspondent of the Spanish civil war. He wrote his first references to Patagonia in one of his first books, titled "Night Flight". In a later work, "Land of men", he describes with singular lyricism the impressions that flying on Magellan earth and knowing Punta Arenas were made on him. Saint Exupéry died in 1944, when his airplane was shot down by a German Air Force fighter plane in the Mediterranean.
I salute a famous flyer. http://surdelsurpatagonia.com/verbonautas/bibliotecavirtual/englishlvirtuallibrary/autores/saint%20exupery.htm I can trace my lineage back to King Lear's fool so it is genetic. |
