But we don’t know nuthin’ ‘bout birthin’ no website.....

When life as we know it became uncertain at the end of May, phone calls were made and emails were blitzing around cyber space. What to do? Reminiscent of the old Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney films that always included the line, "I know! Let’s put on a show!", in today’s world, we concurred, "Let’s start our own site!" Enthusiasm and participation were immediate.

On the next day, Wordman (Keny J.) reserved a name for the new site....He and La Juliette (Pam) have spent a great deal of time on the phone, with emails, and instant messaging planning the site. Afenton (Andrew) has maintained vigil and kept the dragons from the door. Galatea (Becky) has been accused by La J of being the proofreader and editor from Hell(e), Kansas. Galatea has also often (too often?) taken an opposing view, thus slowing things down considerably. She may not survive the last cut....and we’re still unsure whether La J means Helle, Kansas or....... Meanwhile, Plastikos (Nick) who was in on the deal from the beginning, took off for a much needed and deserved vacation. During his trip to Pennsylvania, Nick got his first crabs.....he prefers to call them soft shell crabs.....but that’s just his opinion. He’s probably wrong and we think we know better and recommended an herbal rememdy. An early contributor but latter stage major participant, Emeraldcitizen (formerly Feinis), chirped in from Scotland with loads of ideas for word games and other fun stuff, jovial lad that he is.

Since that first phone call, all of us have been in touch around the clock. After choosing a name, reserving it and finding another one the group liked better, different hosts were researched. The group decided on InfoPop as all of us and most of our potential members will be most familiar with it. We assessed costs of set up, monthly fees and split the cost, with Keny J appointed to manage the funds. We hope the rumor that major improvements on his still were done in the last few days is untrue.... In just a little over a week, a website has been created. Even the guys now believe they know what the birthing process feels like....we are humoring them of course, but they have NO idea! An overall Southern flavor was chosen, mostly due to our adoration of Keny J, fora set up, named, and their content determined and defined, a logo designed by La J, rules of participation developed, and a great deal of give and take communication time in order to create a quality site for people who love to write as much as we do.

We, the proud parents wish to announce the birth of our collective child, WordDistillery.com, much like a blank canvas awaiting the touch of writers’ creativity to fulfill it’s destiny...

Hi All...
Looking forward to this grand new adventure...
If I may add a little international flavour(with a u Wink ) to the opening shinding by presenting a bottle 10year old Laphroaig single malt for the connesseurs and a gallon jar of 150 proof Poteen, direct from my Uncle Jon-Jo's still secreted somewhere in the depths of Co. Meath, for the rest of us who just want to get totally whoopin and hollerin hammered!!!
Let the festivities commence. SmilerBig Grin

I can see this thing is going to require some organization. Okay - La J is going to help Keny with the corn squeezins' and EC is bringing Laphroaig (how tasteful!) and imported squeezins' (I'm a little nervous 'cause he didn't say what was 'squoze' to make it), Andrew of course should bring the sandslips, I'll bring a back up supply just to be sure (they tend to go quick in the mudpit - and the weather's right for that), and I'll bring a bottle of Remy Martin for jr, and Nick......hmmmm...what should Nick bring - besides the first aid kit? Let's see, oh yes. He can bring the Dewar's for when the single malt is gone......it won't take long. And JR - I was hoping he'd bring a touch of class but judging from how he seems to have loosened up considerably of late, I'm not sure I'm ready to take that risk. JR, you're assigned to bring all the appropriate crystal for serving...

Sounds like a plan to me! You're all invited!

I heard that EC! What do you mean I'm bossy? Wanna spend the rest of your life confined to the mudpit? That would be a reward, not a punishment......never mind....... Big Grin

Galatea?!?!?!..Bossy?!?!?!...NEVER!!!!! he he he
Btw...If, coming as it does from Ireland, y'all cannot guess the original organic material from which Poteen is distilled?, then ahm a gonna hafta revise my previously high opinion as to your scintillating intellect; or then again,it could be that it is just real early in the morning for you and you have a lot on your mind!
It is of course the humble potato or 'pomme de terre' if you are feeling eloquent or 'Solanum Tuberosum' if you want to sound terribly impressive!!

EC...you mean...you mean y'all make sqeezin's out of TATERS? Now, I've done heered of everythin' ....

Will a Mason jar full of Poteen blow a tree stump out of the ground? My squeezin's have been used in the place of dynamite for that, and for leveling the old court house in Helle, Kansas (who needs court in Helle, anyway?). Razzer

I look forward to tasting th' Irish tater squeezins. See you at the party!

Ken

Hello to all,
I must add my sincere congratulations and thanks to all of you. It's a pleasure to be here. This site looks delightful, and already has the "homie" feeling surrounding it. It's clear that a lot of time and effort has been put into this site, and I hope it will flourish with quality as it begins. Hopefully, also, I'll get my act together and post a little more than I did before; maybe even share a little literature of mine, so be aware! Big Grin

Welcome, dreamweaver! You are in, what I do believe, what will be the best community on the net. Kind of like a small town where everybody is a good friend or kinfolk. It already has that feeling, doesn't it?

I very much look forward to your sharing your works.

Ken

I was happy to see that a new site was being developed, and was pleased to see it up so soon. Although I'd been a rare CONTRIBUTOR at WP, I certainly enjoyed seeing what others were posting, and am happy that we won't be losing that. Smiler Congratulations!

Galatea, thank you so much for keeping me in the loop. I was so afraid I would get lost in the shuffle. So far, this site looks awesome !

Ditto Afenton. You are an essential ingredient in the poetic smörgåsbord that will be served here.

I am so glad to see that a site such as this has been able to evolve from Word Parade. I really REALLY regret the closing of Word Parade, but it is nice to have another Refuge from the Insane Internet to come to.

Question: What are the Administrator's views on posting work that has already seen the light of day on Word Parade?

Haha, sweet introduction Galatea. Insightful and humorous.

I convey, again, my gladness and gratitude for this site. I like to writeandshare with y'all but more than that, it's important to see you guys in the online-now box to know you're still alive Razzer.

[Regarding most replies] I guess I've missed out a bit too much on the Word-association games in WP and am lagging behind in catching up with The Painted Lady thread, because I'm in one of those situations where one tries to let one's laughter camouflage one's ignorance about the meanings of the jokes! Razzermatters nawt, I'd laugh anyway, and I'm the one who laughs the LOUDEST Big Grin!

Interesting question fron sherasi...as far as I am concerned I have no problem with it. I shall run it by the rest of admin and see what they think.
There was some very good work posted there and it would be a shame to see them lost.

I have no problems in the issue of reposting work from WP. I only ask that each of us try to keep the amount of reposts to a reasonable level. Perhaps post here what you might consider your best work there, or posts that are specific to a topic. I don't think there needs to be a rule on the number of posts.

I know that Aire will leave the site up for a while yet, but I would suggest to everyone that you copy any work there that you haven't saved.

I have no problem with members posting works that were previously posted on WP. Although I do agree that we should try not to post too many. Either the authors's best work as Keny mentioned, or ones that may have been posted just prior to the site being closed. Some of those works may not have been allowed the proper viewing time, and I know that some members had not been able to respond to the replies made.

Since the site will remain up for quite some time yet, we can all still view the first time postings of member's works there.
