In a hidden place devoid of a face
A phantom poet did write these words:

Two times forty plus two minus one-
One is a decade and one is a year.

Two times thirty and nine minus none--
One is a weapon and one is a deer.

What is the weapon?
When was the year?

Upon the bark of an aged Beech,
What phantom poet did carve his mark?

Well this one has twelve views and no replies which equates to twelve minus none. Duds come in all shapes and sizes but I was hoping someone would attempt to solve the riddle. It is based on an actual personal experience.

In the year of of 1981 I shot a 9-point buck that I named the Monarch of Rocky Bluff. I spent many days scouting and hunting this buck in the fall of 81. I missed it once with a arrow shot from my bow. That missed shot made me so sick that I vomited. When the gun season opened the buck was nowhere to be seen on opening day but then I was hunting on a 900 acre farm. On day four of the season I got lucky. It was one of the happiest days of my life.

In 1982 I walked back to the spot where I shot the buck and found an aged Beech. I carved my initials and the year then made my mark (the sign of the Delta).

Twenty years later I went to the aged Beech and the markings were as vivid as if they were etched in granite.


The Monarch of Rocky Bluff has been on my trophy wall for almost thirty years. I reckon I ought to post a photo of it.

Quite the tricky riddle P.H. I figured out /81
but i'll be danged if I can get the weapon from it. I don't know guns well enough I guess, lol.

Two times thirty = 30/30 cartidge. I shot the buck with a Marlin 30/30 lever action rifle. That buck came running in at a full run then stopped sunndely at a scrape (a mating area). It happened so fast. BAM! I dropped him in his tracks. It was a no-reflex kill.
